One thing I particularly like at this time of year is the yellowing of the countryside, the yellow of oil seed rape (canola), the orange-yellows of dandelions, the buttery-yellows of buttercups, the pale, watery yellow primroses, the burning yellows of gorse, and all the other strident or pastel shades of yellow that adorn the grasses and flowers and trees and shrubs…
While driving around Wiltshire on our jaunts, Lizzie and I see many shades of yellow; the garish and most scented of which is the oil seed rape so popular with local farmers. I know some people find the scent too overwhelming,but the colour really brightens the world after long, grey, winter days…
Of course, there are the smaller, more concentrated bursts of yellow we expect in spring:
The stonechats like to sing from the gorse:
And then there’s always more time for a lovely carpet of canola, isn’t there?
